Charleen's Chateau

Not just another WordPress.com weblog ;)

  • So I lost a bet…

…with Photomatt (a.k.a. my darling brother), and I have to blog every day for two weeks. I just know that I’m going to forget and get egg all over my face; I’m already several days late on my initial entry…

I just wish that I had actually made a bet with him when he misidentified the person who said “Well-behaved women seldom make history” (Laurel Thatcher Ulrich), and I called him on it! Ah well, if wishes were fishes, we’d never eat anything else!

  • Apparently, I really need to start blogging more…

ok, I was just installing the lovely snow that you see on my Chateau, when my brother, who was leaning over my shoulder said “August 30th???!?!?!?”

I realized that he was looking at the last day that I had blogged. I know, I’m hanging my head.

A lot has happened since then, though: I’ve had a surgery (no big deal), and had Thanksgiving, and got a Blackberry, which I then had to learn all about…hmmmm…it doesn’t really look like a lot, does it? I guess i just worked a lot. 😦

soooooooooo…I want to wish all 2 of my readers a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and all manner of a Happy New Year!!!

Also, if you’d like that snow, you can find very good instructions (and a true story about our father) here @ WordPress.com

  • I am an Idealist

At least, I am according to the Keirsey Temperament Sorter

Idealists, as a temperament, are passionately concerned with personal growth and development. Idealists strive to discover who they are and how they can become their best possible self — always this quest for self-knowledge and self-improvement drives their imagination. And they want to help others make the journey. Idealists are naturally drawn to working with people, and whether in education or counseling, in social services or personnel work, in journalism or the ministry, they are gifted at helping others find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals and to fulfill their potentials.

Idealists are sure that friendly cooperation is the best way for people to achieve their goals. Conflict and confrontation upset them because they seem to put up angry barriers between people. Idealists dream of creating harmonious, even caring personal relations, and they have a unique talent for helping people get along with each other and work together for the good of all. Such interpersonal harmony might be a romantic ideal, but then Idealists are incurable romantics who prefer to focus on what might be, rather than what is. The real, practical world is only a starting place for Idealists; they believe that life is filled with possibilities waiting to be realized, rich with meanings calling out to be understood. This idea of a mystical or spiritual dimension to life, the “not visible” or the “not yet” that can only be known through intuition or by a leap of faith, is far more important to Idealists than the world of material things.

Highly ethical in their actions, Idealists hold themselves to a strict standard of personal integrity. They must be true to themselves and to others, and they can be quite hard on themselves when they are dishonest, or when they are false or insincere. More often, however, Idealists are the very soul of kindness. Particularly in their personal relationships, Idealists are without question filled with love and good will. They believe in giving of themselves to help others; they cherish a few warm, sensitive friendships; they strive for a special rapport with their children; and in marriage they wish to find a “soulmate,” someone with whom they can bond emotionally and spiritually, sharing their deepest feelings and their complex inner worlds.

Idealists are rare, making up between 20 and 25 percent of the population. But their ability to inspire people with their enthusiasm and their idealism has given them influence far beyond their numbers.

  • Where have I been?

Well…check out the benefit that’s been eating up all my time – JadeCon – and know that I’ll be pretty tied up until after next weekend… hope to see you soon!!!!

  • If the thong fits…

…don’t film it in Heerhugowaard – or don’t blog it afterward? Bloggers film under skirts, due in court.

  • Eddie Izzard

Came across Eddie Izzard’s bit about Cunning Use of Flags on my iPod playlist today.  There’s nothing like a perfect sunny day, under an Indian Summer Sky, driving around with a car full of laughing people.  Life is good.

  • Cedar Park Quints

Ok, I know that this is twice in one day again, but this article tickled me pink. Check out the profession on the mother – a statistics professor! This woman knew and understood the odds better than most of us, and she was shocked?

I know that it’s different when you’re told it’s in your tummy, it just amuses me. I love this story a lot, and I hope that you enjoy sharing it as much as I have!

Even more amusing is, since I’ve been there, they’ve put up YouTube videos!

Remember, this couple has a large community to help them, but A LOT of work to spread over two adults! The family has set up a website for donations, or just to send them words of support! Here it is…

Boy, I have a lot of news about babies today – maybe I ought not drink the water around here…

  • ummm…hi?

Don’t tell anyone that I stopped by this morning, because I need to be getting ready for work, but I wanted to say “HI!” to everyone!!! Nothing much going on, really…

I’m going to a concert this weekend, in SA – I’ll let you know how that goes!

Apparently, one of David Hewlett’s – plays Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis – castmates out-ed him about his fiance being pregnant at Comicon. He writes about it here. BTW, check out this graph of McKay’s brain processes – it gave me quite the giggle…

Other than Joss being the evil master hinter that he is, I haven’t heard much out of that convention, which is surprising. I would have sent you the link to the Whedonesque story as well, but they seem to be crashed right now.

Anyway, I’ve got to head for work – talk to you guys soon!

  • Man arrested for computer inspired outburst

I was going to give this to Matt, but since I didn’t get a hat tip for my last story, I’m posting it myself:

Police excuse angry computer user for outburst

    Who hasn’t felt like this???

  • Still flying…Matt and BSG, Police concert part II…

One of Matt’s PicturesHappy Thursday, everyone!

Matt managed to snag some pictures at The Police concert in Dallas. You can find them here.  I think if he had gotten us any closer, I would have been in Sting’s lap…not that I would complain 🙂

Also, I listened to everyone’s suggestions: Matt is now watching Battlestar Galactica.  I showed him the miniseries last night.  He was so fascinated, it was hilarious! It was 1:30 am when we finished it, so I didn’t exactly hang around to see what he thought of it, but he did briefly entertain the idea of going straight into the first season from there!  I think he likes it.
