I am always happy to spend time with my brother, but if that wasn’t enough, I get to go to my first WordCamp San Francisco this weekend!!! Plus, I may get to see a friend that I haven’t gotten to see in about 20 years, so ‘woo-hoo’!!!!
Apparently, for me, that means making Gas House Eggs and learning CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) from the ground up 😛 Call me crazy, but I’m starting to enjoy this stuff.
Thus far, it’s interesting… but none of the kids look anything like their parents.
Update: well, it continuted to be interesting, but not all that entertaining. I would certainly continute to watch the season if Sci-Fi (or ScyFy or whatever they’re calling it nowadays). Personally, I could watch Eric Stoltz all day, but it just ran really slow in places.
So, l’ll watch me some True Blood for a while, and pretend not to hate Jason Stackhouse. He is one of the most insipid characters ever written for the screen…
Somebody do my HTML project for me? It has to be done entirely in Notepad. Matt, this would finally teach you how to spell HTML…no? Ok. I’ll do both…sigh…
I went to go and pay for my Wordcamp Dallas passes and the site was down. Annoying.
In other crashing news (from yesterday): fans followed Miracle Laurie’s suggestion to call Fox Broadcasting and encourage them to renew Dollhouse. How do we know? They crashed Fox’s phone system. Here’s the original tweet. Here’s the story on Whedonesque. Here’s the fallout. Hat tip: theonetrueb!x
Well, that’s because my darling brother has been helping me realize my vision for the site.
Why is he doing this when WordPress is so super easy to use? Because he designed the original blog years ago when it was not as easy, and I was not going to change it without working with him; I did not want to change a work of art without the artist’s buy-in.
Why did this change (and why will it continue changing)? I have had the tremendous luck of either meeting, being exposed to, or being related to some amazingly talented photobloggers, which has shaped the direction that I want to carry this blog going forward.
Any other reasons? I’ve had the same design for almost 6 years, and getting a new design with old elements is just a nice treat for the sixth birthday (May 25th).
Anything else that I can look forward to? Good question. I think that you might see some more posts, now that WP has begun their post by email option, and God only knows what I willl learn at the Wordcamp San Francisco.
Now I get to ask a question: what do **you** think?
The SciFi Wire just put out an article called “Why we love Dollhouse – and why we hate it!” (the emphasis is theirs), which has SPOILERS for last weeks episode – please don’t visit the link if you haven’t seen it yet. Anyway, they asked Alyx why she (he?) loved Dollhouse, and Janna why she couldn’t be bothered to waste her time with the show.

I really appreciate their candidness, and could agree, or at least understand, most of the opinions stated in the article. Right about now, though, I am praying that Janna doesn’t work for Fox.
This show is very difficult. Joss has always tackled some pretty dense and touchy theological and philosophical issues, but with Dollhouse he gets to explore some particularly juicy ones: emancipation, logical consequences, personal identity, societal identity, social responsibility, money outstripping justice, science outstripping morality, rape (?), the amount that someone is willing to subsume him/herself to save another, slavery/indentured servitude, bachelor cooking, etc. As you can see, some of this stuff is pretty morally questionable, and some of it is downright reprehensible, but please remember that this was intended. Its a pretty extreme metaphor, but its a metaphor none the less.
***I am seriously trying to give my opinion on character development for the most part, so there shouldn’t be any spoilers, but just in case there are, I am putting them below the break. Oh! And they’re NOT for the finale, because I haven’t seen it.***
Horoscope 1: It’s like an old familiar friend that has come home for a visit, now that the Moon has returned to your sign. She reminds you of the power of your emotions, yet also how isolated you can feel when you don’t express them. It may be difficult to let others know what you’re experiencing today, for you have responsibilities that prevent you from slipping into the emotional zone. Just remember that you can keep silent while still actively staying in touch with your inner world. – Stewart Levine Horoscope 2: Your uncomfortable emotions are often the most educational emotions, so when you’re feeling the urge to flee the room today, stay put and listen. Just because someone is voicing an opinion you don’t agree with doesn’t mean that what they are saying isn’t illuminating or legitimate. Even if all you learn is that you detest everything that this person stands for, you will still be better off staying and listening than you would be taking off. Don’t close yourself off from new experiences.
I’ll be sure to let you know when I get it to where I want it to be…
This gallery is a little different in that it is also published in it’s entirety on my flickr account; the rest of my pictures will have a full gallery here and a few select shots on flickr.
(BTW – the Flickr acct isn’t finished b/c I was getting errors with the uploader, but that should be fixed soon)
Be expecting a good deal of photos in the coming weeks as I am now 11 months behind in posting and want to catch up. Also, please let me know what you think of the shots. If you hate them, say so – I will not get to be a better photographer if I only have my feedback to work with.
