Charleen's Chateau

Not just another WordPress.com weblog ;)

  • Slow Burn

Someone in my house left my dog out all day.  Nine hours in 100 degrees heat with no water. Needless to say, I'm pretty horked.  I can't understand being so self involved that something like that could happen.

Fortunately, Rhiannon is fine. She's a little freaked out, as she's wont to be when something like this happens, but she's still the best girl ever. We've just got to keep an eye on her for a few days, poor baby; you could tell that she thought she was being punished because she was doing her submissive thing all over the place.

  • Just a quick thought

If I ever figure out which person or animal woke me up at three AM this morning, there is going to be murder most foul here.

  • Fast food just slowed down for me!

Ordinarily, when I talk about a food establishment, I'm usually ranting – or raving – about their service or their dishes.  Today, I want to talk for a minute about a website; specifically Wendy's Hamburgers.

Those of you that know me, know that I don't like hamburger joints for a variety of reasons related to my allergies to beef and pork:

    1. there's not much for me to eat, and what I can eat is usually dry and tasteless
    2. they cross contaminate their food
    3. I used to live in Mexico – your standards for kitchen cleanliness go through quite a revamping after that

This also adversely affects my appetite for BBQ and Mexican food, earning me the label of a Picky Eater. My poor brother suffers greatly for this as all he wants to eat when he comes to town is either Rudy's (mmmm….creamed corn), Southside BBQ, or Post Oak Ranch,

Anyway, I hate having to eat out at work, because all I have is the usual fast food places.  Today, I had to depend on Mel to grab me some food, so I went to the Wendy's website to figure out what they had to eat.  Boy, was I surprised!  Not only does the restaurant have a fully interactive menu, but once you choose what you want, you can then click on the Nutrition Info button and tailor make your entire meal. As if that wasn't enough, you can add and detract from the materials included and really have all the information about what you're doing to your heiney!

For instance, I got the ultimate grilled chicken sandwich with a baked potato (half for tomorrow) and a cup of mandarin oranges. I know full well that I'm getting 760 calories, and 8 grams of fat, 133 carbs, and 41 grams of protein.  Additionally, I know that I'm getting 170% of my RDA of Vitamin C, 15% of my vitamin A, 25% of my calcium, and 40% of my iron.

I know it's going straight for my thighs, but it be good for me as it goes!!!  Enjoy the site!

  • Thoughts on Veronica Mars

***Spoiler Alert: There are Spoilers for season one here, but not season two, I will warn you before I head into spoiler territory***

Lemme just take a few minutes to tell you about the best show on network TV since…well, since Joss Whedon consigned us to life without Buffy, Angel or Firefly (sigh). In fact, it was a post from that very man – in which he refers to VM as "Best. Show. Ever. Seriously, I've never gotten more wrapped up in a show I wasn't making, and maybe even more than those" – that started me watching the show.

Soooo….I netflixed the first season, much to the dismay of my roommates. At three disks in, I bought it; I just couldn't stand waiting two whole days for the next disk. I watched it until two AM, and then I threw a hissy fit because it ended on a cliffhanger…and we don't get UPN on our cable. I proceeded to call in every favor owed for taped episodes, I called our cable provider daily, I bought the soundtrack, I forced all of my friends to watch it. If I had any goodwill left over after campaigning for Serenity, then I believe that I used it up on VM.

Here's the non-spoilery version: sophmore Veronica Mars is the daughter of the local sherriff in the small southern California town of Neptune. She's best friends with Lily Kane, daughter of billionaire, Jake Kane, and dating Lily's brother, Duncan. Then Lily gets murdered. In trying to solve the case, Keith Mars, Veronica's father, ends up accusing Jake Kane of his own daughter's murder, and getting ousted from office. At the start of the first season, Keith is a Private Investigator, and Veronica – now a junior – has been fully ostricised by Duncan and all of his rich friends. One of these friends is Logan Echolls, who is best friends with Duncan, and was dating Lily.

Confused yet? Well, that's the easy part; combine that with incredibly sharp, psuedo-Mike Hammer, pop culture filled dialogue, spot-on timing, and plot twists that Night Shyamalan would die for. That's all for the non-spoily bits… (more…)

  • Bullet points

I'm sure that my three readers are sitting around scratching thier heads wondering what is up with me and lists lately, but I have a boss at work that just loves bullet points. I'm not used to writing that way, so I've decided to practice that here, and become more proficient in that format. Here's some more practice:

    Things I Love About Sunday

  • Random Lists…

I will die happy if I never had to deal with these things again

    1. ID Card Scanners
    2. Bills – both the proper and improper nouns
    3. People expecting me to be a !#$%^&* mind reader
    4. Old servers – both of them!!!!! That shit gives me nightmares.
    5. Vacuuming
    6. Trash – the human kind – and people acting trashy
    7. HCFA level edits
    8. Close
    9. Geese
    10. Small Minded, petty, immature and insecure people

Little things that just have made me feel good today:

    3. French Vanilla Coffee Creamer

    10. My laptop – isn't it PRETTY???
    11. Friends visiting
    12. You know those small minded, petty, immature and insecure people? I just love it when I'm right, and they're WRONG!!! A little petty of me, I know, but it gives me a warm feeling….
  • Pondering the world…

Why is it that I get exhausted at the thought of sitting in front of my computer for a couple of hours, but I can blow 4 hours making a dream gift registry at one store?

  • Superman Returns, in short (no spoilers)

In short, Superman Returns was very good. I had the day off, so I decided to check it, despite my opinion of Singers previous comic book adaptations. I thought that it had some continuity issues, as Bosworth's lipstick keeps changing midscene, and I thought that her eyes kept changing color too…but then I realized that her eyes are two different colors, so that explained that. Kevin Spacey chewed up the scenery and stole the movie by the end of his first scene.

Also, this one was more violent, to me, than any of the others. And had a little more gore, but mostly with the dog. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed myself…see this movie, if you get a chance

  • Still drooling

I just found the import and export features – this ROCKS!!!

  • HAPPY JUNE!!!

Well, I have a lot of news, and a very  short time to give it to you in, where do I start???

First of all, kudos to my darling brother Matt for fixing both this site and the genealogy site before I even got a chance to pester him!!! All I know is that I got an email with a list of stuff that had been fixed/added, and I can post again!!!  I was just happy to get my regular email fixed, and I was going to ask for one of these sites for my birthday, and maybe one for Christmas

Secondly, as you can see, I'm going link crazy today…well that's because I really dig the "new" features on WordPress.  I know that you're thinking, "of course you have to say that, your brother wrote it!" Let me dissuade you of that: my brother is not the only one who works on these sites; there's a team of talented people working with him to make all of this a reality.  Additionally,  anyone who knows Matt and me knows that we're very honest with eachother – sometimes brutally so.  So let me honestly say, this interface is gorgeous!

Next, all three of you that read this blog (hi Mom and Dad!) know that I like to let people know when I've found really cool sites.  I bought a stunning pendant from some delightful people, and I just have to share the site with you: Treasured Finds. Let me suggest that you check out the "About Us" section, the additional employees are darling.

Finally, my recent trip to Ireland inspired me into my annual genealogy kick, so I've been really working on the tree.  I'll get the new stuff on the site when it's ready, but I've also been working with the Virtual Cemetery Project at Genealogy.com, including a photocensus of the Merrelltown/Elltown Cemetery near my house.  I'll blog about that odd experience when I'm not on the clock.

    See you soon!!! CAM
