  • an alternate to the friday five

Stolen from faeriekissed, who got it from sweetpickles

    1. Name five things you are grateful for.

    My family

    My wonderful friends

    My house

    The beauty that surrounds me

    My education

    2. What four people would you invite over for a party of five? (any four you wish)

Well, like faeriekissed said, I wouldn’t want anyone famous. I would end up totally geeking out on them, and then J would have more to tease me about. I’m just having probs limiting to a group of five (esp with husbands and wives and kids thrown in the mix); I don’t want to leave anyone out. This is a really difficult question. I’m going to go totally dorked out, and stick folks that have passed on.

My Grandmother and Grandfather on my Father’s side

Judge (my Greatgrandfather on Father’s side)

My Grandfather on my Mother’s side

That way, maybe I can finally get some answers to the burning questions that I have in my genealogy…that, and I’ve really only met one of those folks, and I don’t remember him very well as he died when I was very young. I would probably annoy them all with my fifty gagillion questions.

    3. What three things do you need to do today that take less than five minutes to complete?

    Print reports for yesterday

Delete the spam in my inboxes

    Eat

    4. Where are two places you’d like to visit in the next five years?

Well, as long as we’re dreaming, Ireland, and Germany (or Cairo)

    5. Which one of the five senses is your favorite?

I’d say smell, but allergies have really screwed that up; especially right now. Today I’m really enjoying sight, as I got to see a mama hawk teaching her babies to fly on my morning commute. Oh, and I also saw a hot air balloon.

  • Friday five

    1. What was the last song you heard?

Something by Maroon 5; I don’t remember the title but the lyric is “we’ve said goodbye too many times before”

    2. What were the last two movies you saw?

The Grind and Cold Mountain Farm

    3. What were the last three things you purchased?

Coffee, Laundry detergent, and a buttload of yogurt

    4. What four things do you need to do this weekend?

Work. See my brother. Get my oil changed. Take my meds.

    5. Who are the last five people you talked to?

Physically spoke to? Jade, my Mother, my Brother, and Eddie or Alan – I can’t remember which.

  • Sychronicity?

I was flipping through the radio this morning, when I ran across Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” which helped propel me into work….little did I know this afternoon that a friend would be bringing me my very own copy of the new album, Bananas signed to me by the band (at least in it’s current lineup: Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Pace, Don Airey, and a very faint Steve Morse) from the concert in San Antonio a couple of weeks ago.
How strange is that? You don’t hear a song for years, and then you get a signed CD from the band? Did my listening to the song cause it, or did the cd, on it’s merry way over here cause the song? Was it synchronicity? Or was it all chaos caused by a butterfly flapping it’s wings deep in Cambodia???? The world may never know…..

  • some quizzes

    I didn’t expect this one…

    Water
Your element is Water: Understanding, intelligent,
quiet and calm. You know who you are, you have
found yourself, something few have found.
Usually quiet but only because your listening,
don’t let anyone think you haven’t got an
opinion! Your not quiet because your shy or
sad, your quiet because your thinking. Your
answers are usually well planned and helpful so
people will generally seek your advice. Your
the perfect balance between solitary and
outgoing. But sometimes you need a little time
to yourself, heading out away from people to
sort out your emotions and figure things out.
You understand the phrase ‘sticks and stone’
and rarely let things get to you, whats that
important for you to have to get so upset over?
You know what you want out of life but are
simply taking your time and enjoying things. To
you your life is fine as it is, you can always
change things later if your not happy.

  • Weird things that determine what you read

Ok so I’m watching Angel (note the obligitory link to the petition for a 6th season) and I’m not having a good time. My fave character, Wesley is watching his new girlfriend, Fred, die rather horribly, and he’s crying, which I hate. Anyway, long story short, she asks him to read to her, and next scene you hear “She was such a little girl that one did not expect to see such a look on her small face. It would have been an odd look for a child of twelve, and Sarah Crewe was only seven….”

I about died. As soon as Angel was over (and I was done crying), I ran into my room and found the copy of A Little Princess (with my mother’s inscription from 1985 inside) and started reading it. I guess I’ll go to The Secret Garden next (which was my fave of the two), if I live through the ribbing I’m going to get at work. The only problem is that I keep hearing Wesley narrate – which is not really a problem, now that I think about it….

  • Weird things

Wow, Matt really updated this thing, and now I have to realearn it all over again!!!!

  • Friday Five on Tuesday

    1. Are you superstitious?

    Yes, I can be.

    2. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition?

I read a book called “The Silver Link, the Silken Tie” where the protagonist could not even walk past a tree without circling it three times. I think she had moved from superstition to OCD or worse, though.

    3. Believer or not, what’s your favorite superstition?

Gosh, that’s hard…of the non religious superstitions, I would guess it would be anything to do with the Wee Folk (touch wood, throw salt, etc.). I also love the symbology of the Tarot.

    4. Do you believe in luck? If yes, do you have a lucky number/article of clothing/ritual?

Yes I do. My lucky number are 7 and 21. I found a five dollar bill last night, so I might even play the lotto today. I heard it was over 100 million. I don’t have a lucky article of clothing, but I have a lucky necklace that I wear always.

    5. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not?

I like astrology, but I’ve never gotten my whole chart done. Being on the cusp of Cancer and Leo sort of complicates things.

  • oh my gosh!!!

    It snowed here last night!

Ok, celebration over. I have to go to work on the busiest day of the year.

  • Mullenweg.com news

Ok, y’all, I thought you might be interested in this….

I was looking for addresses for Muehlenweg (the lost branch in our family tree), and ran across about 10 in NM, FL, OK & MD. I’ll be making up a letter today at lunch, and sending it out to them; much like I did with the Mullenwegs a couple of years ago (which got me whole other parts of the tree!). Hopefully that will get us some more information! I also came up with about 15 or 20 email addresses, so I’ll be sending the letter there as well. I have to make sure to update the news at mullenweg.com as the letters/email will be directing them there. I have to think of something welcoming, that will make them feel right at home.

There were a lot more of the Muehlenwegs that I just got the name but no address. On of the things that I kept running across was those websites where you pay $9.95 and you get one day’s access to their address database – whatever happened to the good old days where you could pull anyone’s info off the net? – and I’m considering doing that later. I want to see how this works first.

I was going through old genealogical documents here yesterday looking for the letter that I sent to the Mullenwegs (which I didn’t find) and I ran accross a document that Eleanor Beebe sent me listing the Mullenwegs, Puls and Wichmanns buried in Washington cemetary. I scrolled through it, and saw something I missed before: a listing for records found at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houston, TX. On a whim, I googled them, emailed them, and moved on to actual work. Well, they called me this morning and asked me a few questions; they said they’d be happy to look up the records for me – no charge!!!! Woo-hoo!! I hope they kept as good a set of records as the Lutheran churches did in Germany! Also, now that I know that they were lutheran, I can look for records in Navasota and Calvert, etc!

    Sorry, I’m just excited!!!
